Helen Odell Harp Flythe, 85, of Roanoke Rapids and formerly of Conway, departed this life on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Flythe was born in Halifax County, the daughter of the late Jesse Gerney Harp and Maggie Lavena Jernigan Harp.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Lee "Cracker Jack" Flythe.

She is survived by her son, Ronnie Flythe and his wife, Diane, of Woodland; two grandchildren, Jenny Flythe and Benjamin Flythe; two special nieces, Peggy Johnson of Roanoke Rapids and Brenda Meir of Fredricksburg, VA. Helen also leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of great-grandnieces and nephews and great great-grandnieces and nephews.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends Friday, April 17, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and also on Saturday, April 18, from 10:00 a.m.- until, at the home of David Johnson, 928 Raleigh St., Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 18, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Rick Gaskins officiating. Interment will follow at the Town of Conway Cemetery in Conway, NC.
